Mobile App Development

Android App Development

Native Android applications built for real-world performance across the range of devices people actually use.

What you get

Built properly, from day one.

In depth

Android App Development, explained.

01The problem

Downloads are easy. Retention is the hard part.

Plenty of apps make it into the store. Far fewer get opened a second week in a row — usually because onboarding, speed or reliability didn’t hold up in everyday use.

Those are product and engineering decisions, and they’re made long before launch day.

02Our approach

Native feel, the right platform choice.

For most first releases, a cross-platform build in Flutter or React Native reaches both iOS and Android faster, with little trade-off. When an app depends on deep platform features, we recommend native Swift or Kotlin instead.

Either way, the interface follows each platform’s conventions so the app feels at home on the device.

03Under the hood

Sync, offline and notifications, planned in.

Authentication, data sync, push notifications and offline behaviour are architecture decisions, so we settle them during scoping rather than retrofitting them later.

The backend is built alongside the app, not as an afterthought — which keeps the two from drifting apart.

04Launch

Through store review and into users’ hands.

We handle builds, store listings and the review process on both stores, including fixes if a review comes back with requested changes.

At launch you own the code, the store accounts and all IP.

How we help

Where this fits in your business.

Cross-platform

One codebase for iOS and Android when that’s the right trade-off — which it often is for a first release.

  • Flutter or React Native
  • Shared business logic
  • Native look on both platforms
What we build

Android App Development: what we build.

iOS apps

Native Swift/SwiftUI apps built to Apple’s platform conventions.

Android apps

Kotlin/Jetpack Compose apps across the Android device range.

Cross-platform apps

Flutter or React Native — one codebase, both stores.

Progressive web apps

Installable, app-like experiences that run in the browser.

App backends & APIs

Auth, sync and push notifications behind the app.

MVP apps

A scoped first release to validate the idea with real users.

How it works

  1. 01

    Scope

A call to pin down the real problem, the constraints, and what v1 genuinely needs — then a written scope, cost and timeline.

  2. 02

    Design

Flows and interfaces designed alongside the architecture, so nothing gets designed that can’t be built well.

  3. 03

    Build

Iterative builds with a working demo every week — you see progress, not a black box until launch.

  4. 04

    Launch

Deployed to production with monitoring in place, plus full repository and infrastructure handover.

  5. 05

    Iterate

Real usage tells us what to improve next. Ongoing support is available, never required.

Why Defox

Why teams build with us.

Senior

A small, senior team

Senior designers, engineers and AI specialists — not a roster padded with junior hires and account managers. Every project is led by the people who scoped it.

AI-first

AI-first, not AI-decorated

We use modern AI tooling throughout the build itself — from architecture to code — which is how a small team ships at a pace larger agencies can’t match. AI isn’t a feature we bolt onto client products for its own sake.

End-to-end

One team, full lifecycle

Strategy, design, engineering, and launch stay with the same team instead of being handed between vendors. You talk to the people building your product, not an intermediary relaying messages.

Yours to own

You own what we build

Full repository access and IP transfer at launch. We work for you, not as a dependency you have to keep paying to maintain access to your own product.

FAQ

Android App Development: common questions.

For most first releases, cross-platform (Flutter or React Native) is faster and cheaper with little trade-off. We recommend native when the app depends on deep platform features or heavy performance needs.
